Hungary defeated Austria 9-1 and Poland didn´t give a chance to Great Britain winning 27-0 in the EUR3 Qualification.
Great Britain was not touching the ball much, but somehow they were still able to keep their goal clean for over 16 minutes, Poland missing some open opportunities.
Lukasz Chlebda scored the first goal for Poland in 16.27 and soon after the score was already 3-0 for Poland. Joshua Needham in the GB goal saving already 17 shots within the first 20 minutes.
Poland continued to keep J. Needham busy for the rest of the match and despite his 35 saves Poland took a clear victory. Przemyslaw Strazynski in the Polish goal had an easier job as he only needed to make one save during the 60 minutes. 237 spectators watched Poland´s opening match in the Zbaszyn arena.
Hungary saving energy for the next matches
 Hungary had the possession already from the start, but for over 10 minutes the score remained 0-0.
Domokos Rácz became the first scorer of the EUR3 tournament when he put in the ball with a nice one timer and pass from Dennis Schmidt. The Hungarian team seemed more relaxed after their first goal and increased their lead to 3-0 before the intermission. The goals were scored by Norbert Ádám Duró and Zoltán Németh.
Németh scored his second on power play in 24.15 and for D. Schmidt this was already his third assist of the match. The score was 5-0 before Austria´s Christoph Haimburger managed to get a bouncing ball passed the Hungarian goalie, but before the end of the period Németh scored a hattrick, D. Schmidt assisting his 4th.

D. Scmidt gathered 1+4 in the opening match and Oliver Schmidt (in photo) was awarded as best player. Felix Moosburger was elected best player of Austria.
O. Scmidt was happy after the important opening victory:
- Every game is important in this tournament with only four matches and we really had to win this match to have a chance to qualify. It was really nice to play with three lines today, which saved our energy to be prepared to meet Russia on Friday. | Russia is also considered the toughest opponent:
- Russia has the highest ranking and is going to be tough, but also Poland is good. With a good match we can hopefully take one of them. We have many young players, as we had in the WFCQ in 2010 as well, but now the youngsters are two years older and they take more responsibility on and off the court.
